SUMMARY:"Game! Basketball and Contemporary Art" Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:GAME! Basketball and Contemporary Art celebrates basketball as a source of creative expression and community connection. Anchored by the renovation of the Great Park’s four basketball courts—featuring original\, site-specific art by California artist\, Katy Ann Gilmore—the exhibition showcases a selection of contemporary artists from the book Common Practice: Basketball and Contemporary Art who explore the culture and aesthetics of basketball\, alongside a survey of Project Backboard’s  national and international court renovations. \nProject Backboard is an Irvine-based non-profit organization that repairs and resurfaces public basketball courts with large-scale\, site-specific artworks. Transforming court surfaces into vibrant works of art\, Project Backboard aims to strengthen communities\, enhance park safety\, encourage multi-generational play\, and inspire creative and thoughtful engagement with public space. Since its founding in 2015\, Project Backboard has renovated over 100 courts in more than twenty-five U.S. states\, as well as in Puerto Rico\, Canada\, Mexico\, Japan\, and Portugal\, in collaboration with artists such as Nina Chanel Abney\, Jason REVOK\, and Andy Warhol.

SUMMARY:"20 Years Later: The Great Picture" Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Twenty years ago\, six photographers known as The Legacy Project created The Great Picture\, the world’s largest photograph. Measuring 31 by 111 feet\, it was made using the world’s largest camera — a converted airplane hangar transformed into a massive pinhole camera. Taken on July 12\, 2006\, the image presents a panoramic view of the decommissioned El Toro Marine Corps Air Station\, which closed in 1999 and is now the Great Park. 20 Years Later: The Great Picture explores the process and documentation behind this monumental feat and reflects on The Legacy Project’s lasting impact on the history of photography. \nThe Legacy Project consists of artists and photographers Jerry Burchfield\, Mark Chamberlain\, Jacques Garnier\, Rob Johnson\, Douglas McCulloh\, and Clayton Spada.
