For 25 years, I was a software developer, mostly with engineering software companies. I had just spent 19 out of 26 weeks traveling for work and away from my wife and three children. I decided that my work/life balance was out of balance, and it needed to change, but how and to what? Reflecting on what I really wanted to do, I realized I wanted to help people.

When I started my first career job out of college, I was presented with the option to invest in a company 401(k), and I realized that my education up to that point had not prepared me to make these types of investment decisions. This created a desire to learn about how investing can make my money work for me, and continued over the next 25 years, initially with my 401(k), then starting an investment club in 2000, then helping my mother and sister with their investments and continuing to learn about investing on my own.

When I started my search for how to help people, I thought about my experiences with starting and maintaining the investment club, as well as helping my family with investing. I realized that some people are just not interested in learning about investing and can end up making simple mistakes. These mistakes can be huge expenses or missed opportunities. I decided to focus my efforts on helping people invest better.

When I started my new career search, I did not have a finance degree or necessary licensing to work directly with clients. Most companies would only offer entry level positions, Edward Jones was different. They look at the individual, the person who will be the face of Edward Jones in the branch office, and when they find someone who can represent Edward Jones, they train them to be a financial advisor.

It has been a few years now, and I truly enjoy helping people working towards financial freedom, just getting started, staying invested during their earning years and preserving their investments to help make sure they do not outlive them.
